Bugs and their Habitats

We already made it to the third week of Saturday Art School!  It's going by so quickly! This weeks lesson focused on habitats.  Asking questions such as, "where do you come from?", or, "What do you need to survive?" the students were able to come up with answers like Texas, Korea, Iceland, and Pennsylvania.  The students also said you need food, water, and shelter to survive.  With hefty preparations of a range of different foods, the students were asked to create a bug habitat, whether it would be real or made up.  Each of the students were able to choose a plastic bug that they could create a home for.  Some of the foods included edible play-doh (made out of cake mix)  spaghetti, rasions, whipped cream, marshmallows, gummy worms, pretzel sticks, broccoli, celery, grapes, and sprinkles.  The students were able to come up with beautiful food sculptures that had lots of thought and reason that went into their artwork.  Some students finished early, and were able to paint their bug fossils they made last week.  We had such a great day and hope the students had fun with this too!
